The Mac Mini Theater

The Mac Mini - The ultimate Home Theater component

The Mac Mini - The ultimate Home Theater component

Remember how I said I’m always starting new projects before the last one is finished?  Well, at least I’m consistent.  This past weekend, I launched macminihometheater.com as a blog to chronicle my experiences with using a Mac Mini as the central component to my home theater.

My Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver is still the heart of my system, but the Mac Mini should be considered the brains as it contains the Photo, Movie and Music content.  Ideally, I’d like to get an iPhone app that interfaces with the Mac Mini to send IR commands to the other components.. but that is yet another project…

Seriously.. Where the Heck is my Convergence?

Convergence was a big buzz word about 5 years ago.  It was the promise of the computer entering into the living room where all your music, video, and web experiences could be shared on your big tv in the den rather than be limited to your computer desk.  As promised, I can now watch movies, listen to music, browse the web, record shows and play games all from my big screen tv.  And what did it take to get there?  A Mac Mini, Vista XP, DirecTV box, Xbox 360, and PS3.  Is this what was meant by the promised land of convergence?
